Revolutionary Wellfleet: Patriots and Privateers with Dwight Estey
Join the Wellfleet Historical Society’s Dwight Estey for an engaging look at Wellfleet during the
tumultuous years leading up to the American Revolution. In 1763, Wellfleet was thriving—its
population growing, prosperity rising, and independence from Eastham newly secured. Within a
decade, however, England’s tightening control began to fracture that stability.
Dwight will explore the lives of local residents as they defended their coastline, supported
neighboring communities, and took to the sea against one of the world’s most powerful naval forces.
The talk examines conflicting assumptions about Wellfleet’s commitment to freedom, willingness to
fight, and motivations for privateering. All are welcome! Please RSVP to 774-801-8119.
