ARTIST’S STATEMENT:  The compass of my art is internal, though I am very influenced by my environment. By dramatizing nature’s horizon, my paintings revel in the expansive sky and turbulent weather so familiar to the flat plains where I grew up in West Texas, and the coastal regions of Provincetown. I consider myself a colorist, and dream and thrive in the light, colors and infinite horizon of the water surrounding our peninsula. The view of the softness of the dunes is comforting, and the calm and tumultuous nature of the sky and sea are inspiring, feeding the expansiveness of my internal world that has no limits in an abstracted form. I moved to Provincetown in 1976 to launch a horse and carriage business with a friend, and discovered a thriving artist community. In addition to my art career, I have been a piano tuner on the Cape since the mid 80’s, and was the Managing Director, then Director of Berta Walker Gallery for ten years from 2005 thru 2014.

ARTIST’S BIO"  Sky Power, born 1951 in Lubbock, Texas, has lived and worked in Provincetown, MA since 1976. While attending Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle, WA in 1971, Power mentored with Dale Owen, who was then Dean. During 2010 - 2013, the artist studied with painters Paul Resika, Selina Trieff, and Robert Henry, all of whom were Hans Hofmann students in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Since 2004, Power has been an exhibiting artist at Berta Walker Gallery in Provincetown, MA, and for the past four decades has exhibited at various galleries and museums including George Billis Gallery in New York, NY, Infinity Gallery in Boston, the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, Oman, New Britain Museum of American Art, Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Wichita Art Museum, Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cahoon Museum, and Provincetown Art Association and Museum. The artist’s work is included in the permanent collections of the U.S. Embassy, Valletta, Malta, and Provincetown Art Association and Museum. Power’s vision returns abstraction to its earliest roots, that of a bridge between the material and spiritual worlds. Her work is color-infused and evocative, emphasizing the horizon to depict the intimate landscape with the infinite sky and vast seas.
